Dear Steve,
I hate the thought that our time can't last forever. I've always wished (like everyone who has ever been in love) that we could live and love forever. But that was always impossible.
I remember when I was 25 and told you that I'd be laying on my deathbed begging God for one more hour with you. At the time I said that, any other situation was unfathomable because, of course, I'd die first because, of course, there could be no life without you. Seventeen years later, I've grown enough to realize that you have likely been thinking the same about me. We've both been living the same nightmare all this time.
So now that we know whose nightmare is going to come true and have to adventure through the rest of life without the other, I'm so sorry. I promise I'll keep begging.
Love, Cait
